What causes psychics’ predictions to come true?
This is a great question, and it makes sense to wonder how a psychic’s predictions could come true if they aren’t speaking in accordance with the Holy Spirit. Let’s look at this from a biblical perspective.
1. Satan and his role as the “Father of Lies”: Jesus called Satan the “father of lies” (John 8:44). This doesn’t mean that everything he says is untrue, but that his intent is always to deceive, even when he mixes truth with lies. The devil can manipulate circumstances, mix in just enough truth, and even take advantage of what people want to hear to accomplish his purpose: leading people away from God. Sometimes, partial truths or fulfilled predictions can draw people in and bind them in fear or dependency on the psychic or the practice itself.
2. Forbidden practices and God’s warning: In the Bible, God explicitly warns His people against consulting psychics, mediums, and sorcerers (Deuteronomy 18:10–12). These practices are dangerous because they open people up to deception and spiritual influences that are not from God. God’s people were always called to seek Him directly for guidance and truth (James 1:5) rather than relying on sources outside of His Spirit.
3. Fulfillment through guesswork or demonic influence: Some predictions may come true because psychics use careful guesswork, intuition, or even demonic influence. Remember that the devil and his forces have been observing humans for centuries, and they know how to manipulate situations to align with certain predictions. This can create a false sense of trust in the psychic, drawing people deeper into practices that pull them away from a genuine relationship with God.
4. God’s sovereignty and His knowledge of the future: Only God is omniscient, meaning He alone knows the future with certainty (Isaiah 46:9-10). Any predictions that come true outside of His guidance are not from a place of absolute authority but rather from manipulation or limited knowledge. God’s wisdom and knowledge are perfect, and His Spirit is always available to guide those who seek Him directly.
In short, the devil may use partial truths to entrap people, making them think they’re gaining insight. However, trusting God’s wisdom and seeking His guidance provides clarity and peace, which a life influenced by these other sources cannot offer.
